Knitting content: I have just to seam my Baby Surprise Jacket and crochet the neckline. Elizabeth Zimmerman was the original geek knitter IMHO. I want to make a percentage sweater for my DH this winter. The first photo is the jacket, knit in one piece, before you fold it up. The second is the jacket laid out for seaming and adding buttons, which I’ll probably do this weekend.

Life news: We are now officially empty-nesters! We dropped DS off at college this weekend and have had exactly one e-mail from him since Sunday. Apparently he loves it there. This is good! But, with DH out of town tonight, my darling Dusty dog and I are pretty lonely….

Talk Like a Pirate Day

Today is Talk Like a Pirate Day. So, go do it, me hearties!

My pirate name is:
Dirty Bess Cash

You’re the pirate everyone else wants to throw in the ocean — not to get rid of you, you understand; just to get rid of the smell. You’re musical, and you’ve got a certain style if not flair. You’ll do just fine. Arr!

Cylon Yarn

Seeing this yarn on a gadget blog prompted me to post for the first time in eons. I had to share with the world the creative medium for geekitudity that is fiber. 🙂

I confess I’ve been living life fairly normally, just not blogging about it.  Work resumed right after Labor Day. Class sizes are way larger on average (thanks, Arnold and dysfunctional legislature that STILL has not passed a budget that was due June 30!), but not yet horrible.

My mom is doing incredibly better mentally and slightly better physically. She has some kidney issues that are a function of aging. Not much can be done besides being stoic. Her house is getting repaired at no cost to her, although she’ll be incovenienced by having to move out for about 6-8 weeks.

DD is sharing a house with 9 (!) other college sophomore girls and has resumed class already. We’ll move DS up to his dorm next weekend. His graduation summer would have been better without arthroscopic surgery to remove torn cartilage from a surfing incident, but he seems to have recovered well. We got him a MacBook Pro for college so we are now officially an all-Apple household!

DH is crazy busy at work with a horrible commute, so we’re trying to set up a better home office for him.

Darling dog Dusty is almost 10-1/2 years old and slowing down. He still thinks he’s a lapdog and keeps me company at my feet whenever I’m computing. He’ll keep my nest from feeling too empty.

I’m as fickle in my knitting as ever. I finished these 3 scarves for the Ravelympics as gifts to send back to Japan with our exchange student.

I made great progress on the Bella Blouse I started LAST summer. Then I got seduced by the Wrapigan and bought some amazing tweed for it. I’ve knit about 15 inches.  Just last week I got inspired by a charity knit and cast on a Baby Surprise Jacket in Bernat Cottontots, several pastel colors. I knit about 4 inches, then frogged back 1 or 2 because I didn’t like the way the new color join looked. I fixed it tonight and will probably knit myself to sleep with it.

I haven’t been so good about documenting, or at least uploading. There are pictures in some digital device or other around here. Eventually they will make in into the blog, but … well, I consider this quite a lot for one night. Political ranting and gushing over the iPhone 3G will be saved for another post.

Happy weekend!
