Frango Mints and Memories

One of our thoughtful UCLA Law alumni (thanks, MS!) gave me and DH these boxes of Frango Mints. Originally sold at the now only-a-memory Marshall Field’s department store, they are now souvenir items at its successor, Macy’s. Like the madeleines of Proust’s “Remembrance of Things Past”, the smell and taste of Frango’s transport me back to childhood and our annual Christmas visit to the Walnut Room at Marshall Field’s for lunch by the enormous Christmas tree and a Snowman dessert, as described in this excerpt. Some things should never change.
